JAIPUR: The nine jawans, who had gone missing during their journey from West Bengal to Jammu and Kashmir, were visiting their homes in nearby areas on the route, BSF Director General K K Sharma said today.
He said the episode was a case of miscommunication.
The jawans were found missing without official permission between Bardhaman and Dhanbad railway stations during a headcount on Wednesday.
Part of a battalion of 83 jawans, they were heading to Jammu on Kashmir on a special train.
Their commander had filed a complaint in this connection when the train reached Mughalsarai railway station.
"The battalion was moving to Kashmir from West Bengal on transfer. Special trains move comparatively slow and sometimes jawans, who have their homes in nearby areas, go to home and catch the train again on the next station and it was something like that," the BSF director general told reporters in Jaipur.
Sharma said a junior officer had allowed them to go and the senior officer complained to the police due to a lack of coordination.
A minor issue was blown out of proportion, he added.
