JAIPUR: The local administration on Saturday suspended Internet services as tensions rose among the Rajputs over the abduction of a newly-wed bride in Rajasthan’s Sikar district.

Sikar Superintendent of Police Amandeep Singh Kapoor said internet services were suspended on Saturday morning for 12 hours (6 a.m. to 6 p.m.) to maintain law and order.

“Attempts are being made to trace the abducted bride. Her picture was sent to 17 police stations in Ghaziabad where the bride is suspected to be kept. We are also raiding other places in Uttar Pradesh.”

The Rajput community is angry as there has been no trace of the missing bride even after three days of the abduction.

On Wednesday, Hansa Kunar, while going to her husband’s house after her marriage, was abducted by armed men near Mordunga village in Sikar district.

After the wedding, when they were returning in a car from Nagwa village, the men attacked the vehicle and abducted Hansa.

The incident had occurred near Rambashpura area which comes under the jurisdiction of the Dhod police station.

People have been protesting in front of the district collector’s residence since Thursday.  Rajput leader Griri Raj Singh Lotwada appealed to the community to maintain peace and avoid any untoward act.

“The DGP has assured me that the bride would be traced soon. He has got some significant clues. Let’s maintain law and order in the state and let the police be allowed to do their job,” he said.

Protesters gathered outside the Sikar district collectorate demanding strict action against the culprits, they said.

“A group has been protesting and demanding the arrest of the suspects. The search for the bride and the prime suspect is on. As a preventive measure, internet services have been suspended in the area till 6 pm today,” Additional Superintendent of Police Devendra Kumar Sharma said.

Five people have been detained in this connection.
