SRINAGAR: Two militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba were killed in a gunfight with security forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, while two labourers lost lives in an explosion at an Army depot in Anantnag district on Monday.
At Khojpora Reban village in Shopian in the early hours, a joint operation was launched by security forces to flush out militants hiding in the area.
Soon, militants fired on the troopers who returned fire in which two Lashkar militants — identified as Shabir Ahmad Malik alias Abu Malviya and Amir Ahmad Dar, both locals — were killed.
While Malik had joined militancy in December 2017, Dar was active since 2019. An AK -47 rifle, 1 UBGL, 1 AK-47 magazine, 1 Chinese pistol, 1 magazine of Chinese pistol and 59 mm rounds were recovered from the encounter site, the police said.
Meanwhile, at an Army ammunition depot in Anantnag district, four labourers were injured in the explosion and were evacuated to a military health facility.
Two of the critically injured, identified as Gulzar Ahmad Khan and Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, succumbed to injuries.
The other two injured labourers undergoing treatment were identified as Fida Hussain and Shabir Ahmad.
