Family refuses migrant’s body over pending relief

Family members of 27-year-old Vijay Kumar Mahto, who was fatally caught in a crossfire between police and criminals in Saudi Arabia on October 15 last year, have refused to receive his body. Officials say they are demanding compensation from the private company where he used to work in the Arab country. Since it was a bullet injury case, the matter is before a court in Jeddah and the final compensation may depend on the court’s decision, they said. Notably, after being hit with the bullet, Vijay Kumar Mahto had sent a voice note to his wife back to his village, Dudhapania, under Dumri block of Giridih, informing that he had mistakenly been hit by a bullet.
