BENGALURU: The CBI has brought the focus back on the death of Deputy Superintendent of Police M K Ganapathy. After Ganapathy was found dead at a hotel room in Mangaluru on July 7, 2016, his father Kushalappa had filed a petition before the Supreme Court seeking a CBI probe into the case. Acting on the plea, the Supreme Court last month directed the CBI to probe the case and file a charge sheet within three months.
Additional Superintendent of Police G Kalaimani, Special Crime Branch of CBI, Chennai, will head the probe. According to sources, none of the three accused has been summoned yet for questioning. CBI has registered the case under IPC 306, which is abetment of suicide.
Opposition BJP, which has been baying for George’s blood, has demanded that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah sack him. BJP State President BS Yeddyurappa said, “George should not be allowed to continue in his post even for a minute as he could tamper with evidence in the case.”
BJP leaders held an emergency meeting chaired by Yeddyurappa and union minister Prakash Javadekar who has been made poll in-charge of the party in the state to discuss the developments. The leaders decided to launch a statewide agitation seeking George’s resignation if Siddaramaiah rejects their demand.
