Development era dawns as state launches Navakerala Mission

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government on Thursday launched the ‘Navakerala Mission’ and rolled out four programmes under it relating to healthcare, education, housing, agriculture, waste management and conservation of water resources.

Governor P Sathasivam conducted the state-wide inauguration of the Mission at a function presided over by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and attended by ministers, senior government officials and hundreds of elected representatives from various local bodies across the state.

A seminar was also held in connection with the launch of the programmes. While ‘Haritha Keralam’ programme relates to waste management, agriculture and natural resource conservation, ‘Aardram’ caters to the health sector, ‘Life’ to the housing sector and ‘Public Education Protection Drive’ relates to the general education sector.

In his inaugural address, the Governor said that the success of the programmes would depend on the extent of people’s participation in them. The Chief Minister said local bodies have a key role to play in the success of the programmes. He said that the government would provide financial and technical assistance to local bodies in the implementation of programmes under ‘Navakerala Mission’.
