THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State police chief T P Senkumar on Monday decided to seek clarity from the government on the prosecution measures initiated against him by Chief Secretary Nalini Netto.Senkumar is expected to seek information on prosecution details via a Right to Information (RTI) application.
Inside sources say he will resort to further action, including legal recourse, only after obtaining the response to his RTI query. On Saturday, the government had recommended prosecution of Senkumar based on a complaint lodged by police headquarters Additional IG V Gopalakrishnan.
Gopalakrishnan had sought permission for prosecution proceedings in connection with an incident in 2012. According to him, Senkumar, who was ADGP (South Zone) at that time, verbally abused him during a visit to the Police Training College (PTC) in Thiruvananthapuram.
Gopalakrishnan was the PTC principal back then. He also alleged Senkumar had ‘mentally tortured’ him by filing a confidential report against him while he was DySP of State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) in 2006. In the report, Senkumar had said Gopalakrishnan was ‘mentally unfit’ for the job. Senkumar, as IG, had registered fake cases against him and publicised the confidential report to belittle him, Gopalakrishnan said in his complaint.
Though Gopalakrishnan had approached the previous governments seeking permission to prosecute Senkumar, his pleas were rejected. However, the LDF Government gave the nod as it was forced to reinstate Senkumar as the state police chief following a Supreme Court order, 21 days ago.
Earlier, the government had frozen the transfer orders issued by Senkumar. The state police chief also had hinted the government was deliberately trying to downgrade him. Senkumar’s service period is set to end on June 30.
