THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Tourism Minister Kadkampally Surendran on Thursday said the state government is planning to create 5 lakh new employment opportunities in the state tourism sector in the next three years.
Speaking after launching the Kerala HR portal of the Kerala Institute of Tourism and Travel Studies (KITS), he said the HR portal www.tourismcarriers.in was launched with the view of connecting the employers and candidates after giving them standardised quality education and training, and bring all the stakeholders under one roof.
Stating the state tourism sector is on the growth track, the minister said the state could arrest the slow down in the industries sector and put up new ideas and innovations for the development of the sector.
The state tourism development which was chiefly hitherto confined to south and central Kerala, is now being advanced to Malabar region with a lot of tourism initiatives. The department is taking steps to develop all the tourist spots from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod, the minister said. The `300 crore river cruise project will earn a place for Malabar in the world tourism map.
The opening of Jatayupara (Jatayu rock) and the biggest Jatayu sculpture on Chingom 1, Nishagandhi dance festival and monsoon music festival, and Onam festivities are expected to attract domestic and international tourists, he said.
