KOCHI: ‘Identity Clinic’, the first-ever private sector clinic dedicated to transgender health in Kerala will be opened at Sunrise Hospital on October 17. Renju Ranjimar, make-up artist and founder secretary of transgender organisation ‘Dhwayah’, will inaugurate the clinic. District panchayat president Asha Sanil,  film director and Horticorp chairman Vinayan and Thrikkakara Municipality chairperson K K Neenu will be present.

Kottayam Medical College has a dedicated clinic for transgenders which offers treatment for general health. Identity is a 24-hour, multi-disciplinary clinic which offers the services of endocrinologists for hormone treatment, psychiatrist and psychologist for mental health, gynaecologist and urologists.

“Since we do not want them to be segregated from other patients, the clinic will function with usual OP. The clinic also offers modern treatment, including sex-reassignment surgery along with hormone treatment and counselling,’’ said Dr Suja P Sukumar, consultant endocrinologist at Sunrise Hospital.
She said the clinic will also organise awareness programmes at regular intervals.
