HOW about delving into a different food experience? To lure Kochiites with mouth-watering traditional dishes, Alapatt Regency, Palarivattom, has organised a tapioca food festival, ‘Kappa Fest’, which promises to be a different treat to food lovers.
A variety of tapioca dishes such as kappa biriyani, kappa ularthiyathu, kappa with fish curry, crab curry, chicken curry or chicken liver and kappa puttu await gourmets at the hotel. “These days, people don’t chance upon traditional food items like tapioca. Although such dishes are available in roadside eateries, a majority of the family crowd doesn’t prefer such places. So we decided to organise a food festival that offers a variety of traditional dishes,” says Francis Alapatt, managing director of Alapatt Regency.
The items that are demanded the most at the ‘Kappa Fest’ are kappa biryani and kappa with fish curry, says chef Sekhar. In order to ensure that the food festival has a traditional ambience, the tapioca dishes are served in plates and pots of clay. Don’t miss the chicken curry made in traditional style with fried coconut.
Fish curry with tamarind is another mouth-watering item on the menu. Heard of kappa puttu? Made with grated tapioca that’s steamed with coconut, this is sure to impress every gourmet. “We had organised a Goan food festival recently. This is the first time that we have organised a traditional food festival. The response that we are getting is awesome,” says Thankachan P A, manager, operations.
There’s more to look out for. Following the kappa food festival that winds up on May 15, Alapatt Regency will organise a Kuttanad food festival.
