I knew it had to happen some day. I was escaping just one part of the fitness dragnet - going to a gym or fitness studio to have my daily rounds of exercise. I get to see for myself how the calories are getting burnt and the impurities get washed away with the outpouring of sweat during workouts for as short durations as 15 to 20 minutes.
It is good that it came to me – who dabbles in the softer areas of health – crystal healing, pranic healing, hypnotherapy, acupressure, sujok, and Bach flower therapy. They are indeed the flowers, leaves and shoots of the tree of health. A gymnasium is the trunk of the tree and takes you almost to its roots.
I've fallen in love with the fitness studio - the smiling faces of the fitness trainers, sports physiotherapists, dieticians who greet you first thing in the morning. They are an inspiration that you too can be healthy and fit like them.
The stretches and relaxation of a five lap-walk inside the air-conditioned studio, which has glass windows to let you get a full view of the morning sun, is exhilirating. To shop for the workouts - getting new t-shirts, tracks and branded running shoes – cost a bit.
The walking I did with my casual shoes had given me a pain on the left heel.
The money spent here is in the right direction as I have already begun to perceive the world with my five senses that have a thinner screen sans several pounds of flesh, to look through.
Suddenly, I see a spur of enthusiasm and wander among friends and well wishers. Some wish to know why I have got into a gym, whether I want to act in films?!!! Yes, it is my wish to be a better actor on the world stage, with a fit body and mind, and for now the fitness studio is my Spartan training ground to fit into my role better.
Gyms, workout, fitness and good health are not just for the actors or sportspersons or for the men and the boys. It is for all – men, women, rich, poor, irrespective of religion, caste, community, nationality orgender. It is your birthright.
