Many forms of alternate healing methods such as Pranic Healing, Reiki, Acupuncture, Acupressure and particularly Yoga therapy are heavily dependent on an unseen part of the human body called the subtle etheric body or the Sukshma Shareeram in Sanskrit.
This subtle body interpenetrates the physical body and expands as the individual’s aura – outlining the physical body from about one to five feet.
Though the existence of this was questioned by sceptics and scientists alike, now scientific equipment like the Electro Interstitial Scan, Gas Discharge Visualisation – a scientific tool to study mind-body functions by reading auras, Polycontrast Interference Photography Bio-imaging which observes the human energy centres used by health practitioners, Resonant Field Imaging which measures the electro-magnetic field around the individual, SCIO which measures the electro-magnetic reactivity in the body via different electromagnetic responses and Multi Cell-Com of the size of a laptop for biofeedback and bio-resonance treatment.
Scientific equipment, with the help of computer softwares is just adapting to study and analyse what has been spoken of since ancient times – the existence of the subtle body and the seven main chakras or energy vortices that connect the 72,000 Nadis or energy channels that criss-cross the subtle body .
The vibrancy of how these seven vortices function determines how healthy and fit we are physically, how much balanced we are mentally, intellectually and emotionally Any disease that strikes the . body, has to first penetrate the aura or an egg-shaped bio-magnetic shield that surrounds the body Depending on the aware . ness of the individual, the foreign energy that is likely to cause disease or an energy disturbance finds its way into the body through the channels of energy tubes. When the vortices or power stations located approximately in the glandular areas of the body get disturbed, it soon begins to manifest as disease in the physical body Cure at this point has to be . done externally, through medicines and internally through cleansing and sealing of the aura, which is the lot of the whole gamut of energy healing practitioners.
The chakras begin from Muladhara, the base of the spine. Its colour vibration is red and controls kinesthetic feelings and movement of the body When this does not .
function properly, it results in lower back pain, sciatica, varicose veins, rectal ail ments, depression and immunity loss. Emotional issues of survival, self-esteem, social order and security impairment is an effect of a breakdown of this chakra. It governs the spinal column, kidneys, legs, rectum and the immune system.
Swadhishtana, orange, governs the sexual organs, stomach, upper intestines, liver, gall bladder, kidney, pancreas, adre-nal glands and spleen. Manipuraka is the navel region and is predominantly yellow in colour. Stomach ulcers, intestinal tumours, diabetes, pancreatitis, indigestion, anorexia, bulimia, hepatitis, cirrhosis of the liver, adrenal imbalances, arthritis and colon diseases are a result of an imbalanced navel chakra.
Anahata has a green and pink colour to it. Where there is more greenery, the heart flowers. Physical problems are bad heart condition, asthma, lung and breast cancers, thoracic, spine, upper back and shoulder problems and pneumonia.
This chakra governs the heart, circulatory system, blood, lungs, rib cage, diaphragm, thymus, breasts, oesophagus, shoulders, arms and hands. Vishuddhi or the throat chakra is sky blue in colour. This governs the organs of speech and communication.
Sore throat, mouth ulcers, scoliosis, swollen glands, thyroid and voice problems, laryngitis, gum and tooth problems temporomandibular joint problems are caused when this chakra is affected.
The Agnya chakra, glowing with an indigo colour, between the eyebrows is the mind centre.
This is the seat of ideas, insight and mind development. People who have brain tumours, stroke, blindness, deafness, seizures, learning disabilities, spinal dysfunction, panic attacks and depression are having an energy imbalance in the Agnya chakra.
The Sahasrara or the crown chakra is of violet, white and gold colours. It governs the top of the head. A closed Sahasrara results in mystical depression, diseases of the muscular and skeletal system, skin, chronic exhaustion without any physical ailment, sensitivity to light, sound and environment.
The whole gamut of new-age energy healing techniques concerns itself primarily with these chakras and setting them right and keeping the energy system shining and healthy.
