Benefits of Chanting Guru Gita

Studying the Guru Gita will help one transcend the ocean of existence where one is constantly trying to become something.

The disciple Parvati asks her Guru and husband, Lord Shiva, addressing him as Mahadeva, or the light of all great lights, as to what his words mean about transcending name and form. The giver of peace, Lord Sankara, replies that the kundalini energy and the breath are the subtle powers that operate in the body. The form of the body is given by the seed of the being to transcend this to remain the pure consciousness without any modification of energy, breath and form.

When one transcends the influence of this kundalini shakti and the subtle modification of Prana which is the mind and the form, that person is free of being influenced by matter and there is no doubt about it here, says Lord Shiva.

Being blessed with this vision of your own true self, the person becomes free of all attachments. By the grace of that very self one remains alone, without a craving for the other, one remains at peace and is self-contained.

To attain that state, it is important not to be swayed by the play of desires and enjoy whatever one has attained without a craving for that object, experience or state of mind in a contented state of consciousness.

The wise one who has merged in this state of universal consciousness becomes all knowing, in a constant state of happiness, peace and is delighting in that state wherever he or she may be in.

Pointing out to the qualities of the Jeevan Mukta, Lord Shiva says that wherever he may be living, such a person sanctifies that place. To achieve this state of mind, it is important not to make our efforts in our own direction that pleases us, but has to be through the directions of a Guru. The path of spiritual realisation is indeed tricky and as an individual seeker, it is very difficult to know the pitfalls ourself, because our own mind and ego can trick us anytime.

The one who does not have this knowledge and is living a materialistic life is caught in names and forms. He reaches deeper into the ocean of existence of change and becoming. The Jnani, however, knows what to do in action and in inaction, what has to be done and what need not be done.

Chanting and studying the Guru Gita will help one transcend this ocean of existence where one is constantly caught in the web of trying to become something. The whole life ends in this sad process. Lord Shiva says the chanting of the name of the Guru alone is enough to bestow this state of mind as it is the king of all mantras. The benefits of chanting the Guru Gita are endless. It destroys all sins and all poverty of matter and spirit.
