As part of the Android Wear PR exercise, Google has made some of its partners show off the wearable products that they are working on. One of the most eye-catching among those products was the Moto 360, the smart watch from Motorola. The man behind the vision for the 360 is Shakil Barkat, the Vice President for Wearables and Product Development at Motorola. Barkat has a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois, Chicago and a master’s in the same discipline from the National Technological University. After a brief stint at Dauphin Technology, Barkat joined Motorola in 1994. In 2009 he was made the Senior Director in charge of MotoACTV Fitness Category which would become a stepping stone for the coming consumer electronics revolution of wearables. In that position he has created the ‘industry first converged GPS Fitness tracking device with music player’. Even as Motorola has struggled to stay relevant, got bought by Google, and then by Lenovo, Shakil kept working on wearables and now is making his mark through the Moto 360.
