The Maharashtra Legislative Council on Wednesday passed the law on Black Magic, by approving the Bill which was presented to it in the form of an ordinance.

The Bill on Maharashra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic was passed by the Legislative Council a week after it was cleared by the Assembly.

The Opposition, comprising the BJP, the Shiv Sena and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, had staged a walkout in protest against the government’s adamant stand to proceed with the passage of the Bill without including their suggestions.

The Shiv Sena was staunchly against the Bill on the grounds that it was against the Hindu religion. Leader of the Opposition Vinod Tawde said though they protested against certain aspects of the Bill, it is one of the most revolutionary steps in the state history.
