Inspired by Shankar’s film ‘Mudhalvan’ (Nayak in Hindi) in which the hero is bathed in milk to cleanse himself of filth, a Maharashtra minister and NCP leader was bathed in milk on Friday.

Though Labour Minister Hasan Mushrif may have enjoyed the milk bath in the morning, he was not prepared for the flak that he received from various quarters later. Mushrif’s followers decided to give him a milk bath in response to an incident on Thursday where an irate unemployed man belonging to the party threw ink at him.The minister was at a public function in Buldhana in Vidarbha when Namdeo Dongardive took the stage and poured the ink. He was later arrested.

However, when Mushrif returned to his hometown Kolhapur on Friday he was greeted by followers who made him sit on a stool and gave him a milk bath.

As the news of Mushrif’s milk stunt spread, angry reactions came from across the board. BJP leader Gopinath Munde sarcastically remarked that if the minister’s sins could not be washed away with milk, then his supporters should use ghee instead.

While reacting to the criticism about his milk bath, Mushrif turned apologetic. “I was not aware that my party workers were going to give me a milk bath. I had told them that yesterday’s incident was not a big deal. However, I apologise to the state and have reprimanded my party workers,” Mushrif told mediapersons.
