President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday appointed Nikhil Kumar as the new Governor of Kerala. Nikhil was serving as the Nagaland Governor.
A former Delhi Police Commissioner and a 1963-batch IPS officer, 72-year-old Nikhil was appointed as the Governor of Nagaland on October 15, 2009. He is the son of former Chief Minister of Bihar and veteran Congress leader the late Satyendra Narayan Sinha. His mother Kishori Sinha and wife Shyama Singh were also Members of Parliament.
Nikhil was a member of the 14th Lok Sabha and represented the Aurangabad constituency. His brother-in-law N K Singh is currently a Member of the Rajya Sabha and earlier served as Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister.
Nikhil also served as the Director-General of the National Security Guards (NSG) and a member of the National Security Advisory Board during the National Democratic Alliance regime.
As reported in Express on Saturday, veteran Congress leader and former Nagaland CM S C Jamir has been appointed Governor of Odisha in place of Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare, according to a press communiqué from the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Jamir, 82, had earlier served as the Governor of Maharashtra and Goa.
The President also transferred Governor of Tripura D Y Patil to Bihar. Devanand Konwar, Governor of Bihar, was shifted to Tripura as Governor.
Former CBI Director Ashwani Kumar has been made the Governor of Nagaland.
