Ilayaraja's Brother Gangai Amaran Likely to Join BJP

CHENNAI: Popular Tamil music composer, Gangai Amaran, brother of music maestro Ilayaraja, is likely to join the BJP here on Saturday in the presence of party chief

Amit Shah when he will address a public meeting for the first time here after taking over as party president.

Gangai Amaran called on BJP national general secretary Muralidhar Rao and party's Tamil Nadu unit president Tamilisai Soundararajan here today.

A senior BJP functionary confirmed that the music director had called on the party leaders and added he is likely to join the party tomorrow along with "several other prominent faces."

Besides scoring music, Gangai Amaran is also a lyricist and film producer.

BJP is trying to rope in prominent faces including politicians from rival parties as part of its ambition to emerge as an alternative to Dravidian majors AIADMK and DMK,

Shah is scheduled to address a rally here tomorrow and chair a brainstorming session with party workers on December 21.
