Lashkar-e-Toiba bomb expert Abdul Karim Tunda, nabbed in 2013 from the Indo-Nepal border, came in touch with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim in Karachi through Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) member Lakhbir Singh’s aide Iqbal Bunty in 2002.
The revelation came after the police filed a supplementary chargesheet in a Delhi court on Wednesday. The chargesheet was filed before Additional Sessions Judge Bharat Parashar to ‘clarify’ the prosecution’s case regarding charges slapped under the stringent Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) against Tunda.
Tunda was arrested by the special cell of the Delhi Police from the Indo-Nepal border on August 16, 2013. The ISI and Tunda had planned to carry out terror strikes in India during the 2010 Commonwealth Games and BKI was given the responsibility.
The plan failed after the Bangladesh police arrested Tunda’s aide near the Indo-Bangladesh border. The chargesheet stated that Dawood had made a proposal before Tunda in 2002 to help him in planning and carrying out terror strikes in India. “After 6 to 7 months, Tunda and Dawood met again,” the chargesheet said.
Tunda was declared an offender in the case of recovery of explosive substances, registered at south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar police station in 1994.
