Express News Service

NEW DELHI: With a month to go before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s second Independence Day address, his office is busy looking for ideas and schemes that he can announce from the ramparts of the Red Fort on August 15.

The PMO last week wrote to all ministries asking them to identify five major activities which they would like to undertake in the forthcoming year.

After the BJP’s massive Lok Sabha election win last year, Modi announced a series of new schemes like the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna, Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and Make in India, among others, in his first Independence Day speech. The PMO has also sought the status of the implementation of the announcements, related to each ministry, made by the Prime Minister during the address.

“A tabular statement on related announcements and implementation status may be prepared,  which could be related to Make in India, Digital India, Swacch Bharat, e-governance, women’s security, public-private partnership, tourism relationship with Saarc countries and others,” said the communication.

The ministries were asked to send the details of their five major activities and inputs on their expected impacts in 250 words to the PMO by July 10.
