Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien tweeted out an official letter, presented as a part of the clarification by defence minister Manohar Parrikar in Lok Sabha in the ongoing standoff between the Army and the West Bengal government.

The letter was addressed by Kolkata's additional commissioner of police Supratim Sarkar to the Administrative Commandant, Colonel Surinder Mahani on November 25. The letter discusses the 'Impressments Exercise for Civil hired transport', to be undertaken by the army at the Vidyasagar Setu toll plaza, on November 28.

In the letter, Sarkar has asked Mahani to reconsider the "proposed place of exercise as it is a busy and important corridor having huge volume of vehicular traffic". Incidentally, it is also the gateway to the secretariat, which is also a high-security zone.

In view of the above-mentioned facts, Sarkar urges Mahani not to conduct the exercise in that stretch. He has also urged the former to explore other options.

Army also made public the letters they had sent to the WB government and the police department, communicating the details of the exercise.
