Chargesheet Filed against 11 in NDA Scam

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet in the National Defence Academy (NDA) recruitment scam on Thursday against the then chief of the academy, two colonels and eight others for alleged corruption and cheating in the appointment of ‘Group C’ employees.

The then Commandant of NDA, Lt Gen (retd) Jatinder Singh, his then staff officer, Col Kulbir Singh, physical training officer Col AK Singh among others, have been named in the chargesheet for alleged criminal conspiracy, cheating and under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The chargesheet has been filed in connection to alleged irregularities in the process for recruitment to 97 ‘Group C’ posts at the academy located in Khadakwasla near Pune in 2012.

“The staff officer in conspiracy with the other accused obtained illegal gratification of `3-4 lakh from each candidate to give them appointment as subordinate staff like cooks, gardeners, lab attendants, library attendants and cadet orderly,” said a CBI officer.

The accused allegedly took signatures of those who had agreed to pay the bribe on blank sheets and later filled them with correct answers, the officer said. The agency has seized `1.76 crore in connection with the case after it raided 14 places in Pune, Mumbai, Gurgaon and Sonepat. It had arrested all the accused in 2012.
