UP: Man shot dead, locals block national highway

BALRAMPUR: A 38 year-old-man was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Civil Lines area here, leading to a protest by local residents who blocked the National Highway-828 for several hours, police said today.

Durgesh Singh was returning home after meeting some friends last night when some unidentified persons opened fire on him, killing him on the spot, they said.

A large number of local residents staged a sit-in on the national highway demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.

The traffic movement was disrupted for about four hours due to the protest.

The police said that an FIR has been registered in connection with the incident based on a complaint filed by Singh's father.
