Large consignments of fake currencies reached Indian shores? DRI blocks outbound cargo in Chennai port to check

CHENNAI: Chennai port's outbound cargo has been stopped temporarily as the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence is conducting searches at the facility, after they received a tip-off about large consignments of fake Indian currency notes reaching the shores of various ports.

Sources said searches are being conducted in multiple locations in India, including the Inland Container Depot in Tughlaqabad, located in the capital Delhi's southeastern area.

Chennai Port sources confirmed that searches are being conducted in a certain portion of the port. Inbound cargo has not been affected, sources said.

It is said that the searches are being conducted in the wake of tip off that huge consignments of fake Indian currency notes, including Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 notes, have reached Indian shores.

When Express contacted the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence sources, they refused to comment.
