GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court on Tuesday rejected bail to former chairman of Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) Rakesh Kumar Paul, alleged to be the kingpin of the multi-crore cash-for-jobs scam.
Paul, who was arrested in November 2016, was granted bail by the Supreme Court in August this year, but was arrested again a day after, in connection with another case pertaining to the same scam.
The Assam Police are also searching for three officers—Rakesh Gupta, Assistant Commandant of fifth APBN, Rumi Saikia, Assistant Commissioner, Golaghat, and Nisha Moni Deka, Circle Officer, Chamata—who went into hiding in the wake of police crackdown on officers who secured plum jobs allegedly by bribing Paul. Twenty-two officers, arrested over the past few days in connection with the scam, are now in 14-day police custody.
