Boy electrocuted, 41 injured during separate Muharram processions in Uttar Pradesh

LUCKNOW: A 15-year-old boy was today electrocuted and 41 others injured in separate incidents of 'tazias' touching high-tension wires in Pratapgarh, Kaushambi, Sitapur and Bareilly districts of Uttar Pradesh.

In Pratapgarh, the teenage boy was electrocuted in Kusaldeh village in Manikpur area when a tazia taken out in a procession on the occasion of Muharram touched the wire, police said.

Mursleen (15) was killed and four others were injured in the incident, they said.

In a similar incident in Kaushambi district, seven persons sustained burn injuries when a tazia touched high-tension wire in Manjhanpur area, police said.

The injured were rushed to a hospital where their condition was stated to be stable.

In another incident, 12 persons were injured when a tazia they were carrying came in contact with electricity wire in Bishanpur village in Ramkot area of Sitapur district, police said.

Similar incident took place in Bareilly district's Bahedi area in which 18 persons were injured near Tejnagar canal on coming in contact with electricity wire, the police said.

Among the injured, five were stated to be critical and were admitted in the district hospital, they added.
