PORT BLAIR: Saturday’s inauguration of yet another Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands took the total number of JNVs in the Islands to three. The Lt governor A&N Islands, professor Jagdish Mukhi on Friday laid the foundation stone of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (permanent site) at Port Mouth, South Andaman.

Addressing the gathering, the Lt Governor said JNVs have been devised with a mission and exclusively tasked with finding talented children in rural areas of India and providing them education equivalent to the best residential school system, without regard to their family socio-economic condition.

“No recommendations are considered and the admissions in JNVs are based on the merit/performance of the students,” the Lt. Governor added. He also appreciated the administration for the creation of good ambience in the temporary structure for JNV at Govt Middle School Chouldari, in which 33 students will be accommodated.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) are a system of alternate schools for gifted students in India which started in the year 1986, the Chief Secretary said adding that JNVs are known for social justice and quality of education. The Chief Secretary hoped that this school will prove as model and excellent school in our Islands.
