NEW DELHI: The national president of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student body affiliated to the Congress, has resigned following charges of sexual harassment, sources in the party said on Tuesday.

Fairoz Khan’s resignation has been accepted by Congress president Rahul Gandhi, they added.
Khan denied all allegations against him, but stepped down on Monday evening saying he was keeping the party’s interests in mind. “He resigned of his own accord for the goodwill of the party,” NSUI general secretary Saimon Farooqui said. A replacement will be announced soon. A party worker from Chhattisgarh had first accused Khan of sexual harassment in June, and met Rahul Gandhi to demand action against him. She even lodged a complaint at the Parliament Street police station.
