KOLKATA:AN influential social worker and Trinamool Congress leader were shot at close range by unknown assailants while returning home in Uttar Dinajpur late on Friday night.

Itahar witnessed pitched battles between TMC and Congress cadres a few days ago in which as many as 20 people were injured. Investigations have revealed that miscreants from Jharkhand might be involved in the incident where a boy was shot in the head after his mother, BJP candidate Putul Mondal joined the TMC.
