Kashmir encounter: Two militants killed, security forces continue operation in Tral

Additional security forces have been rushed to the area to foil any attempts by militants to escape, they added.

SRINAGAR: Two Hizbul Mujahideen militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in volatile Tral area of south Kashmir's Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.

A police official said acting on specific information about presence of militants, a joint party of police, CRPF and army men launched a cordon and search operation in Reshipora village of Tral in Pulwama district last evening to flush out militants hiding there.

He said security forces maintain tight cordon around the village in the night and zeroed-in on a residential house, where militants were hiding, in the early hours today.

The militants fired on the troops, who retaliated and in the ensuing gunfight two local Hizb militants were killed.

A civilian identified as Farooq Ahmad Malik sustained bullet injuries during the gunfight.The three-storey residential house was completely damaged during the gunfight.

The deceased militants were identified as Adfar Fayaz Parray son of Fayaz Ahmad Parray of Gulshanpora Tral and Irfan Ahmad Rather son of Ghulam Hassan Rather of Shariefabad Tral.

"Both militants were involved in conspiring and executing several militant attacks and were wanted by the law for their complicity in a series of militancy incidents," the police official said. According to police, Adfar, an arts graduate, had joined militant ranks on July 6, 2018 while Irfan, a 12th dropout, had joined Hizb on October 29, 2017.
