Uttarakhand: Seven people killed, 28 injured as bus carrying pilgrims from Gujarat falls into gorge

DEHRADUN: At least seven people were killed and 28 others were injured after a bus carrying pilgrims returning from Gangotri Dham fell into a deep gorge on Sunday evening, police said.

The NDRF, SDRF, and police teams were deployed in rescue work.

“A bus returning from Gangotri Dham near Gangnani on Gangotri national highway under Patwari tehsil area of Uttarkashi district fell into a deep gorge. All the injured are said to be from Bhavnagar city of Gujarat,” said district disaster management officer Devendra Singh Patwal.

The bus had 34 passengers, explained state disaster response force PRO Lalita Negi. “The injured have been admitted to a hospital for treatment. Bodies of the seven deceased have been recovered,” he said.

Superintendent of Police Arpan Yaduvanshi said all the injured had been evacuated from the spot and brought to the district hospital. “Those whose condition is somewhat serious are being referred to the higher center. Two more ambulances from the district hospital have been sent to the spot,” he said.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed deep sorrow over the accident.
