PURNEA: In his first reaction to JD(U) president Nitish Kumar's switch to NDA, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday asserted that the 'Mahagathbandhan' comprising Congress, RJD and Left parties does not need Nitish Kumar.

Speaking at a rally in Purnea district, where his 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' entered during the day, Gandhi said it only took ‘little pressure’ for the Bihar chief minister to take a U-turn.

Rahul said that Mahagathbandhan, which is part of the Opposition ‘INDIA’ bloc, has taken the responsibility to deliver social justice to the people of the state. He also said that Nitish Kumar exited the ‘INDIA’ bloc due to the caste survey.

The former Congress president also took credit for conducting a caste-based survey in Bihar.

Rahul said that Congress along with RJD insisted on Nitish Kumar conducting a caste survey in the state. “But BJP got scared. They were opposed to the plan. Nitish ji got stuck and BJP provided him backdoor to run away,” he told the gathering.

Rahul said, “Our alliance (INDIA bloc) will take the responsibility to deliver social justice to you and we don’t need Nitish ji for it. “Nitish ji took a U-turn after he succumbed to a little bit of pressure. But why a pressure in the first place? Because our alliance is raising the issues that matter in the country,” he remarked.

Earlier Rahul Gandhi interacted with the farmers in the state. They shared their problems with the Congress leader.
