SRINAGAR: The Jammu (Rural) Police on Sunday recovered a Chinese-made telescope of an assault rifle near the headquarters of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Jammu.
According to a police spokesperson, the telescope, which can be mounted on a weapon, was recovered from the Sidhra area of Jammu, which is also near the headquarters of the security wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Top police and security officials have rushed to the spot and searches are being conducted in adjoining areas. An investigation has been launched to ascertain how the telescope reached the area.
The recovery has prompted the authorities to beef up security in Jammu including areas around major government and military installations.
Notably, the recovery came a week after the NIA filed a detailed 1,597-page chargesheet in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack case, naming seven accused, including four Pakistanis, the Pakistan-based militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba and its offshoot The Resistant Front (TRF).
The NIA is also probing the November 10 Red Fort blast case and the alleged "white collar terror module" involving medical professionals.
