CHANDIGARH: A 25-year-old woman was raped by two men in a moving van on the Gurugram–Faridabad Road for nearly three hours on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, before being thrown out of the vehicle, causing serious head injuries. The Haryana Police have arrested two men in connection with the case.

According to the police, the incident took place after the woman accepted a lift offered by the accused in Faridabad.

An FIR has been registered at the Kotwali police station based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s family. The woman is currently admitted to hospital and undergoing treatment.

After allegedly committing the crime, the accused threw the woman out of the moving vehicle on the road, resulting in severe head injuries.

Sources in the police said that the woman’s sister stated in her complaint that the victim had a matrimonial dispute with her husband and was living at her parents’ house.

On Monday evening, she had an argument with her mother, after which she left home and went to a friend’s house in Sector 23. Later in the night, she took an autorickshaw to NIT 2 Chowk and then walked towards Metro Chowk while returning home after leaving her friend’s place.

“Around midnight, she waited at Metro Chowk for an auto to go to Kalyanpuri. Two men in a van offered her a lift. She sat in the van and instead of taking her to Kalyanpuri Chowk, they took it towards Gurugram Road. She was then raped by them in the van for hours before being thrown out on the road near Raja Chowk around 3 am."

"The victim then called her sister as she had severe head injuries. When we reached there, we found her wounded on the roadside. She was rushed to Badshah Khan Hospital for treatment,” the woman’s sister said in her complaint.

Given the seriousness of her injuries, doctors advised that the woman be shifted to Delhi. However, the family admitted her to a private hospital in Faridabad. While her condition is stated to be stable, the woman remains in a state of shock, and her statement is yet to be recorded.

A senior police official said that a crime branch team from Sector 48 arrested two alleged accused who hail from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh but were residing in Faridabad. The police have also recovered the Maruti Eeco van allegedly used in the crime.

“We have nabbed the accused and are questioning them. They will be produced before a court. Since a test identification parade is yet to be conducted, the names and photographs of the accused cannot be disclosed at this stage,” said Yashpal Yadav, spokesperson of the Faridabad Police.
