BHUBANESWAR: Two extreme fields of sports and literature were brought together on one platform at the Odisha Literary Festival (OLF) 2016 here on Sunday. The second day of the 5th edition of OLF kicked off with Sports Quiz conducted by popular quiz master Soumyadip Chowdhury and was attended by nearly 200 students of Class XI and XII from six schools and a junior college.
The enthusiasm among the students was evident from the very first moment. The Q&A round picked up pace as the quiz master started posing questions from a variety of sections of sports. The questions ranged from identifying the sportsperson to naming the sport or the brand they promote. A new section included in the quiz - ‘A new avatar’ - was the most unexpected, said Kanhaiya Dhanuka of DAV Chandrasekharpur adding, “We did not feel like it was a competition and it was a knowledge gaining experience.”

The quiz was interesting and Soumyadip’s intelligent questioning left the students scrapping their heads for answers. Sanat Puri, a student of DAV Pokhariput, said the questions were not beyond our expectation and the Avatar section of the quiz was interesting. Group discussion among the students pumped our morale, said Sanat.
During the one-hour event Soumyadip included an element of literature in sports where the students were required to connect the two through a question or a clipping. One question went as: Name the author or work from which the title of the book was derived. The answer is Alistar Maclean’s ‘The Way to Dusty Death’. Many avid readers of William Shakespeare  would not miss the title which was picked from Macbeth.
While Sai International emerged the winners, DAV Pokhariput was the first runners up and DPS Kalinga second runners up in the competition.
After the session, Soumyadip said the students here are equally talented as any other State and attempted every question which is a good sign of participation.
