Alleging torture, wanted woman Maoist surrenders

KORAPUT: A Woman Maoist cadre, who was carrying a reward of `1 lakh on her head, surrendered before the Koraput police on Tuesday. She is Suna Wadeka alias Jivani, a member of Koraput-Srikakulam area committee of CPI(Maoist).

Informing this to mediapersons, South Western Range DIG S Shyni said Jivani had been associated with Maoist movement since 2011 and had entered the outfit’s Jana Natya Mandal at the age of 12. She started off by taking part in cultural activities of the outfit. Later, she learnt to operate a .303 rifle and became the bodyguard of C Narayan Rao, alias Suresh, the commander of Koraput-Srikakulam area committee. She decided to quit the outfit after being tortured by her Maoist counterparts from Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
The DIG said that Jivani was involved in about 10 Maoist violence incidents, including Ralegada landmine blast in 2013 that had claimed the lives of four BSF jawans. The reward of `1 lakh would be given to her and she will be rehabilitated according to Government norms, the DIG said.
