BHUBANESWAR: The State Government, on Friday, maintained that rehabilitation and resettlement work in coal mine areas should be completed in a time bound manner by Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL).

These issues were discussed at a high-level meeting presided over by Chief Secretary AP Padhi and attended by Union Coal Secretary Sushil Kumar at the State Secretariat here. Chairman-cum-Managing Director of MCL Anil Kumar Jha and senior officials of MCL attended.

Several issues, including increase in coal production, construction of rehabilitation colony, eviction of encroachment, construction of roads to different rehabilitation colonies, provision of electricity and drinking water and identification of land for setting up new colonies were discussed at the meeting.

Angul Collector participated in the discussion through video conferencing. Principal Secretary in the Steel and Mines Department Raj Kumar Sharma, Principal Secretary in the Revenue Department and Principal Secretary in Home Department Asit Kumar Tripathy attended the meeting among others.
