CUTTACK: The court of Judicial Magistrate, First Class (JMFC), Salepur on Monday remanded suspected Al Qaeda Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) operative Abdul Rehman to Choudwar Circle Jail while referring the adjudication of the case to District and Sessions Judge Court in Cuttack.
Amid tight security, the Special Task Force (STF) of Crime Branch of State police brought Rehman from Tihar jail to Odisha on Sunday night and produced him before the JMFC, Salepur at 8.30 am.
The STF, which submitted the 574-page chargesheet, also handed over 121 pages of police papers to Rehman for his reference in connection with the case.
Additional SP PK Bhoi said Rehman was produced in JMFC court in connection with offence perpetrated in Odisha. ‘’As per legal parlance, the court made commitment of the case and forwarded it to Cuttack District Sessions Court for trial,’’ he said.
As per the court order, Rehman was sent to Choudwar jail at 12 noon. He will be produced in Sessions Court after the court fixes a date for hearing of the case, Bhoi added. Rehman, who was running a Madrasa at Bilteruan village within Tangi police limits in Cuttack, was arrested during a joint operation of Delhi and Odisha police from his house at Paschimakachha village under Salepur block on December 15, 2015 on charges of radicalising youths for terror activities.
Initially, Jagatpur police had registered a case against him. Later, the STF of Crime Branch took up the case for investigation. During interrogation, Rehman had reportedly admitted his link with terrorists involved in 1999 Kandahar plane hijack and 2002 American Centre blast in Kolkata.
