BHUBANESWAR: In a bid to tide over the shortage of specialists in healthcare institutions in the State, Odisha Government is considering to start Post Graduate Diploma course in different disciplines through College of Physicians and Surgeons at Mumbai.

Sources said 30 courses will be offered which include PG Diploma in ophthalmic medicine and surgery, gynaecology and obstetrics, child health, pathology and bacteriology, dermatology, anaesthesia, Oto-rhino-laryngology, orthopaedics, medical radiology and electrology, diabetology, infertility, neurology, urology, cardiology, nephrology, neonatology, hemato-oncology, immunology and intensive care. The diploma courses guarantee that persons having such qualification would possess requisite knowledge and skill for practice of medicine.  
The PG Diploma courses to be started in consonance with National Health Policy-2017 are of two-year duration. The Government has also notified to recognise these courses offered through the Mumbai-based college.

Accordingly, it has been included in the schedule of Odisha Medical Council Act. The courses will be offered in selected district headquarters hospitals and Capital Hospital after due inspection and approval of the college.
