JAGATSINGHPUR: A couple was arrested by Tirtol police on Tuesday for allegedly running a brothel at their residence. Sources said the accused, identified as Siba Prasad Barik, from Rahama Bazaar, and his wife Basanti Barik were running the brothel in their house for the last few months.

They had also engaged a mediator to arrange call girls from Berhampur and Angul.

Tirtol police station IIC Balaram Nayak said four persons, including the couple, have been arrested so far. “Police have registered a case under Sections 3, 4 and 5 of Immoral Traffic (prevention) Act, 1956. A sex racket was being operated for the last few months in this locality.

We are trying to find out whether any other persons are involved in the racket,” the IIC said.
