CUTTACK:  Yet another dengue patient succumbed at SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) here on Tuesday.The deceased has been identified as Prasant Moharana (25) of Rupadeipur within Balanga police limits in Puri. According to hospital sources, Prasant was admitted to SCBMCH on July 5 at 10.35 pm in a critical condition and was shifted to ICU the next day after his condition deteriorated. He succumbed to the disease at around 9.20 pm on July 6.

This is the second case of dengue death in the current season at the Government-run hospital. Earlier, Trailokya Barik (32) of Dimiria under Nandipada police limits in Keonjhar district had succumbed to the disease while undergoing treatment in the medicine ICU of SCBMCH on June 24. According to assistant nodal officer of SCB Dengue Ward, Dr SP Mohanty, 18 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital while five have been shifted to ICU.

A total of 39 samples were sent to the laboratory on Tuesday, out of which six have tested positive for the mosquito-borne disease. The six positive cases include three patients from Cuttack’s Rajendra Nagar, Jagatpur and Tangi localities and one each from Puri, Nayagarh and Khurda district, Dr Mohanty informed.
