New Delhi, Dec 20 (PTI) Japan will offer a grant of morethan Rs 72 crore to install an advanced traffic informationand management system in Bengaluru, the country's embassy heresaid today.

The Exchange of Notes for the implementation of theproject in Bengaluru was signed between Ambassador of Japan toIndia, Kenji Hiramatsu, and Joint Secretary, Department ofEconomic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, S Selvakumar, today.

The project for implementation of Advanced TrafficInformation and Management System in Bengaluru, includes,signalling system and traffic congestion length measurementsensor in the city.

The grant, amounting to 1.276 billion yen, approximatelyRs 72.86 crore, for the project is expected to contribute tostrengthening connectivity and industrial competitiveness ofthe local economy by improving traffic congestion and urbanenvironment, the embassy said in a statement.

"Especially, in 2022, three years after the completion ofthis project, this new system will help reduce congestionlength, currently reaching 550m at longest, by 30 per cent, atinterchange facing heavy congestion, and contribute toenhancing the convenience of urban transportation andrevitalising the local economy," it said.

In addition, this new system in Bengaluru city willutilise the advanced technology provided by Japan, thestatement added. PTI KNDABH.
