New Delhi, Nov 10 (PTI) The National Association ofSoftware and Services Companies (Nasscom) today named DebjaniGhosh as its President-Designate, who will succeed RChandrashekhar after completion of his tenure in March nextyear.
Ghosh, former managing director of Intel South Asia, willbe the first woman President of Nasscom.
In a statement, the apex software body announced "theappointment of Debjani Ghosh, former MD, Intel South Asia, asthe Nasscom President-Designate, succeeding R Chandrashekhar,President, Nasscom upon the completion of his term in March2018".
Ghosh has been a member of Nasscom's Executive Counciland a trustee of Nasscom Foundation.
"The industry is today at a very interesting inflectionpoint and Nasscom has a key role to play in catalysing thenext phase of growth of the sector. Under Debjani'sleadership, Nasscom will further enhance its initiatives ininnovation, disruptive technologies, skilling and new marketaccess," Raman Roy, Chairman of Nasscom said.
Ghosh's appointment is a reflection of the importance ofdiversity and inclusion for the industry, he added.
Commenting on her appointment, Ghosh said, "...I firmlybelieve that Nasscom is much more strategically placed thanany other forum to drive the IT agenda of the country".
The Indian IT and business process outsourcing industryhas been one of the growth drivers for the economy and istoday a USD 150 billion sector representing multiple sub-sectors.
But a number of issues which have cropped up lately,including stricter work visa regulations in key markets likethe US and the UK, and an uncertain business environment, havedeepened the worry lines in the industry. PTI MBIABM.
