Nirjuli (Arunachal), Oct 30 (PTI) Union Minister KirenRijiju today said a regular director of the North EasternRegional Institute of Science and Technology would beappointed next month, and other issues concerning theinstitute would soon be resolved.

Rijiju was responding to grievances put forth byNERIST students' union president Banta Natung, includingappointment of a full-time director, alleged financialirregularities, deployment of CISF personnel and convertingthe institute into a full-fledged central varsity.

"The issues of NERIST will be taken care of and I takeit as my responsibility. The institute which is not only thepride for the state but for the entire North East cannotsuffer," he said while inaugurating 'Sonabyss 17', the annualcultural festival of the deemed university.

Rijiju, who arrived at the state capital on a day-longvisit despite inclement weather, also inaugurated thenewly-constructed central library of NERIST.

"The state-of-the-art central library is the result ofour effort in pursuing the Centre for infrastructuredevelopment at NERIST. Many more such projects for theinstitute are coming," he said.

The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs calledfor a concerted effort of all stakeholders to resolve theissue regarding alleged financial irregularities in theinstitute.

On encroachment in NERIST land, Rijiju urged theinstitute authorities and local leaders to look into it andensure security to the institute.

He also said he would disuss the matter of deployingCISF personnel at NERIST with Chief Minister Pema Khandu. PTIUPLRBT.
