KOLKATA:  Olympian footballer Mohammad Abdus Sattar, a celebrated forward of the 1950s, has died at his south Kolkata flat following pneumonia, family sources said Sunday. He was 85 and is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters.

Sattar was one of the members of the gold wining team at the 1951 Asian Games and also turned out for the country in the Helsinki Olympics the next year.

He spent the major part of his playing career donning the green and maroon jersey of Mohun Bagan, and was one of the key footballers in the club's first ever Rovers Cup win in 1955.

He also played for Mohammaedan Sporting, and coached the club later.
