CHENNAI: Italian World Cup-winner Marco Materazzi will return to coach Chennaiyin FC for a second straight year, club officials confirmed on Saturday.

Materazzi led the franchise to the semifinals of the Indian Super League last year, where they lost to Kerala Blasters. “I’m very happy to continue with Chennaiyin FC for another season. Despite starting our preparations late last season, we managed to be one of the best performing franchises. It was only possible thanks to the support I got from the owners, management, staff, players and the fans. I’m looking forward to the second season and we’re working hard to build a strong squad. All through my playing career I’ve aimed to be first. Of course the goal for the second season will be to become champions,” Materazzi said.
