CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Cricket Association at its executive committee meeting on Tuesday appointed former state cricketer PC Prakash as new batting coach. Opting for specialists in each department, TNCA have decided to do away with the idea of chief coach this season. DJ Gokulakrishnan and TS Mohan will continue to be the bowling and fielding coaches respectively. RI Palani of Indian Bank will be the manager.

Former TN coach WV Raman’s move to shift to Bengal was discussed at the meeting. Raman coached the state team for the last four years.

“There is no specific reason for not having a chief coach. Since there is a coach for each department and manager they will take care of the boys,’’ said Kasi Viswanathan, secretary of the TNCA. “It is a challenging job. I do not wish to be compared to WV Raman as our roles are different.

We are blessed with a strong batting line-up.

My job will be to fine-tune them when necessary and since a couple of them may be out on national duty, developing a strong bench strength is my top priority,’’ said an elated Prakash, who has been a Ranji selector in the past.
