KOCHI: Nearly a decade after he first presented his formula to revise the target for teams batting second in rain-interrupted limited overs matches, Kerala engineer V Jayadevan may finally have his moment in big-time cricket next IPL.

The BCCI’s technical committee, headed by Sunil Gavaskar, that met in Chennai on Friday has decided to recommend Jayadevan’s VJD system to be implemented in IPL IV. “The committee has accepted the VJD system,” said Jayadevan on Saturday.

“They told me that the system would be used in the next IPL but the final decision rests with the BCCI. I expect it to be approved in the IPL Governing Council meeting because it is the technical committee which is responsible for such matters.”

The Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai alumnus holds a masters degree in building technology. The significant factor about the system was that it could be updated as the pattern of scoring changes during the course of the game, he said.
