Tension turns to joy for Aparajith’s father

N Jagannath Das

For Dr Baba, it was tense moments at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Even as his son Aparajith was making a significant contribution in India’s World Cup triumph in Australia, Baba was closely monitoring the final against Australia and at same time performing his duties as media manager of the Indian team which was playing the first Test against New Zealand. He refused to comment on his son’s performance for obvious reasons. “Please call my wife for the comments,” he said.

However, he did say that Aparajith was down with fever.

Baba revealed that Aparajith always played under Indrajith, who is 40 minutes elder. But the latter never played for India.

“There is no jealously among the brothers,” said Baba. The twin brothers took to cricket at the age of four and played U-13 for Tamil Nadu. Since then both have been playing for Tamil Nadu with Indrajith leading the State and South Zone teams.
