India player Abhinav Mukund bagged the prestigious Bishnuram Medhi Trophy and was adjudged as the Cricketer of the Year on the occasion of the 82nd Annual day celebrations of the TNCA. In his absence, his father Mukund received the award from chief guest Jennifer A McIntyre, Consul General of the US Consulate in Chennai. Abhinav also got the NN Suvarna Memorial trophy for scoring the maximum runs in Ranji trophy.
Indian offspinner R Ashwin, who is the captain of Vijay CC received the Rajah of Palayampatti shield for winning the First Division championship.
Promising cricketer Vijay Shankar of Vijay CC secured the Baliah Memorial Trophy for being the Collegiate cricketer of the year. India Under-19 player B Aparajith of St Bede’s won the important C Subramaniam Trophy for being the School Cricketer of the year. Dr Baba, his father received the awards and several others that Aparajith and his brother Indrajith won.
The glittering function was presided over by N Srinivasan, president of the TNCA and the BCCI. A host of former Test cricketers like VV Kumar, WV Raman and several ranji cricketers graced the occasion. Srinvasan lauded the efforts of the TNCA and Districts in organising various tournaments at all the levels. He briefed the large gathering comprising of several club secretaries that quite a few international matches would be played at Chennai in the coming busy season.
Several players received scholarship amounts of Rs 1000 under scholarships instituted in the name of former Board presidents MA Chidambaram, S Sriraman and double International the late MJ Gopalan. V Pattibhiraman Endowment prizes to were awarded to promising cricketers. Kasi Viswanathan, secretary of the TNCA read the annual report, while Dr Natarajan, joint secretary proposed a vote of thanks.
